Visit to the grave of Fr John Davidson in Greenock Cemetery, 7 th January 2008

The year 2008 marks the bicentenary of St Mary’s Parish, founded in 1808 as the Greenock Mission. To inaugurate our celebrations a small band of hardy pilgrims braved the January weather and the mud of Greenock Cemetery to visit the grave of Rev. John Davidson, our “founding father”, to mark the anniversary of his death.

Mgr John led a moving prayer service at the graveside. Then it was back to the hall for a welcome cup of tea.

If anyone is interested in visiting the “Priests’ Stone” at any other time, contact Frances Mary for directions: history@stmarysgreenock.org
